the voyage has been ongoing for 7 months now, the food in the bowels of the ship is awful and the portions are small. our masters vehemently discipline us for our own benefit; "you will learn the way of the slave" they say as they baptize us with their whips. we believe them, for we are poor and have only dreams. 3 nights ago 4 of our good brethren succumbed to the plague -- a hideous sight it was.
