EyesForLiars - For the lag, are you double-clicking? Tapping the space-bar? Don't. What I suggest is to make certain you use your keyboard keys and keep the space bar pressed. It'll cue up your attack as soon as it can! Hopefully this helps you!
I also don't know if you have a decent ping? You can bind the "ping" function in the controls and then check your ping ingame. Players with above 100 ping are at a slight disadvantage unfortunately.

EyesForLiars - As for the importance of taking raids, tournaments and the main map are two entirely different scenarios. In tournaments. RUN. The moment you're no longer in a 1v1, run. If two people attack you. RUN. You want to survive! That's normal! And if you run and you survive in a tournament, the community will respect you! Tournaments, the good players "pray on the weak". They know you're not the best, so they'll swarm you in hopes that you're an easy kill. Don't let them get to you! RUN!

EyesForLiars - As mentionned, tournament and main map are a bit different! In tournaments, you need to run! In the main map, it gets a bit trickier. You want to be able to get a few shots off before running to go get some fuel! Don't let your life get too low before porting! Or else you'll die! But don't run without fighting. It's a tough balance act! But you'll get the hang of it :) The key to this game is really persistance! Every raid you'll only get better! But I do hope you stick around!

EyesForLiars, since nobody seems to be answering your questions I'll try my best to explain :)
Firstly tournaments and the main map are treated differently. In tournaments you should never take a raid, the idea is to survive at all costs as long as you don't quit low. In the main map it's different, you should always fight back no matter how many tanks are on you. The idea is to shoot back and get as low as possible with out dieing. With practice you'll soon be surviving 10v1's
