You can test this in game by taking a shot and then hitting the C button between each shot to see the point difference for what you are shooting at.

You get more points for shooting higher rank beb0p and to go from Sergeant to Lieutenant it requires you to kill or Corporal or above. So people don't kill their Corporal and stay Sergeant for a longer time in the game getting better points for shooting higher rank Lieutenants in the game so when they finally kill their Corporal they have more points than you overall...
Furthermore, you get less points for shooting same rank or below.

when i ranked i had over 55k on my sarg before i ranked up. its all about using ur equipment and time efficiently. for being new you did well tho. for more help i suggest joining the discord and asking some of the fellas there.
